Aaron, my first internationally competitive Malinois, passed away quietly
at the age of 14+ years on February 14, 2003.
Aaron was imported from Germany as a SchH2. His most exciting phase was always
obedience. My fondest memory of competition comes with a personal best of 98 in
international competition in Belgium in 1993; I was told I started smiling after
the sit in motion.
Aaron competed for three years at national events and was on the two
international FCI teams and also was on the American team to the first World
Belgian Shepherd Championship (before it had been European only) in Belgium.
He won two Regional Championships in the Rocky Mountain region (the first time
with Kevin Sheldahl as the handler who also competed with him in one USA
National), the last time with a high of 288. We finished our titles with a 90 point
FH--darn that last article!
Aaron was the sire of the A, B, C, and I du Ciel Rouge litters, and has offspring working
in SAR, Narcotics, Patrol, Protection Sports, Agility, and Obedience.
Aaron was exciting to work and to watch...a wonderful balance of character, power,
willingness and drive...the most fun dog I have worked. He opened up a new world of national
and international eventing for me, and I met many new Belgian friends here and abroad
because of him.
