Philosophy
I have been training, showing, and trialing Belgians in a
variety of sports since 1980, and in schutzhund since 1987. Under
the name Best Friends I board and train companion dogs and provide
behavioral consultation and education for their owners. In 1993 I bred
my first litter under the name Du Ciel Rouge.
Based on the European model, and with the guidance of
experienced breeders in Canada and Europe, my goal is to maintain the
natural characteristics that have made the Malinois a top dog for
service, sport, and companion.
Intense drives needed for work and sport combined with
intelligence and willingness in a healthy body are trademarks of the
breed. Social and environmental stability, courage, resilience, big
bites, object orientation, and agility are some of the other
qualities that factor into the equation for the perfect dog. While I do
not breed for the show ring, I work to keep dogs free of disqualifying
faults.
I want each breeding to reflect care in selection of the
dogs and pedigrees and careful placement of the puppies. All puppies
are guaranteed. I encourage progress reports and want to be a
part of each puppy's upbringing and training.
